Our Ministries

Here is a list of some of the ministries staffed and supported by the cooperating Baptist churches in our association. We do this so that each of the more than 4000 resident members of our churches can be a Great Commission Christian, assisting with the extension of the Kingdom of God.

– Celebrative and encouraging annual meetings of the association each October

– Monthly newsletter on the back of the Alabama Baptist

– Website www.pickensbaptist.com, and Facebook page features news and pictures

– Library of books and videos. Also a resource library and microfilm of church records

– Resources for church programs and training – videos, books, speakers

– A voice for morality and the Baptist way in our area

– E-mailed prayer list each Tuesday for use in our church’s Wednesday night services

– Church Program Consultations and Church Health Reviews

– Practical and technical advice to the churches by qualified, experienced consultants

– Area Evangelistic events and training

– Recruiting and staffing teams to do evangelism at community events

– Provide scholarships to the youth of our churches who are continuing their education. Scholarships are $500 each and an essay is required.

– Baptist Center Thrift Store in Stansel operated by a staff of volunteers

– Food, clothing, and benevolence distributed through the Thrift Store

– Lydia House for visiting ministers, missionaries, and evangelists

– Support for the Cooperative Program and for the various efforts of the Alabama and the Southern Baptist Convention in such areas as education, evangelism, child care, and missions

– Senior Adult Revival each March

– Men’s Ministry program

– Disaster Relief Team equipped for chainsaw, cleanup, chaplaincy, and child care ministries. A tractor is also part of the team’s resources.

– Wild Game Supper each April

– Men and Boy’s Prayer Breakfast each January

– Pinewood Derby each February

– Financial support of national and international mission teams from Baptist Center funds

– Block party trailer

– Sunday School lessons broadcast at 8 am each Sunday morning on 100.9 FM, and also available as a podcast on our website

– Vacation Bible School training and support

– Supply Bibles and literature for inmates at the Pickens County Jail, with special jail ministries at Christmastime

 

 

We are also involved in ministry at the Federal Correctional Institution in Aliceville. This has been in cooperation with Religious Services, Education, and Re-entry offices there, with support from the Warden.

– Protestant worship services weekly in the work camp

– Protestant worship services weekly in the prison in English and Spanish

– Bible studies in both the camp and prison

– Survival Kit in preparation for baptism  in both locations

– Quilting classes as part of the recreation program in the prison

– Samford Ministry Training Institute in the camp

– Drama events in both locations

– Concerts in both locations

– Rubies for Life in the prison

– Federal program called Threshold in both locations

– Strategies for Success

– Universal Children’s Day in both locations

– Support for the Kairos program

– Participate in and support Prison Fellowship’s Project Angel Tree at Christmastime

– Coordinating a re-entry process with Alabama WMU
